Armstrong’s Teammate Worthy of Award Too

The United States-based Discovery Channel had more than one winner Sunday at the Tour de France.

While team leader Lance Armstrong won his seventh consecutive overall title ...

* First-year Discovery team member Yaroslav Popovych of Ukraine won the white jersey awarded to the best rider age 25 and under.

* Mickael Rasmussen of Denmark, who had stood third overall until a disastrous individual time trial Saturday when he crashed twice and needed four bike changes, was the bruised but happy owner of the polka dot jersey given to the competitor who collects the most climbing points.

* Thor Hushovd of Norway earned the green jersey that is given to the rider who has earned the most sprint points during the course of the three weeks. Australia’s Robbie McEwen had worn that jersey for two consecutive years.

* The German T-Mobile team led by third-place finisher Jan Ullrich and fifth-place Alexandre Vinokourov defeated Discovery Channel for the team title.

Armstrong earned 400,000 euros (nearly $483,000) for his individual victory and, as is traditional, split the total among his other eight Discovery Channel teammates.
