‘Glorification of excess’ or ‘a fun, upbeat read’?

Share

The article on the residence and lifestyle of Jamie and David Wolf [“A Throwback That’s a Step Forward,” June 9] marks yet another sorry example of the glorification of excess and greed. Barbara King leaves little to the imagination when she carefully extols Harvard, Radcliffe, Beverly Hills, Bel-Air -- along with the various household help.

While sadly true that the rich and otherwise privileged probably always will be “with us,” one cannot help but notice the photographs appearing from time to time in other sections of the newspaper -- the pictures and stories depicting the starving children of Darfur, Sudan, or those of American troops crying over a dead comrade in Afghanistan or Iraq along with thousands of dead Iraqi civilians. The list of ills is almost as endless as the pitiful excuse for values in the article.

Last week’s edition was a special thrill, as I love all the warm, colorful decor of traditional or country rather than the plethora of sleek, modern design that seems to dominate so often in home design articles. Thanks for a fun, upbeat read.
