Potrisunrise Thrives After New York Move

Share

Since leaving California and heading east, Potrisunrise has flourished.

An 8-year-old, Argentine-bred gelding, Potrisunrise has won four of six starts since being shipped to New York late last summer. Three of his victories have come at Belmont Park; the other at Aqueduct.

Owned by Sanford Robbins and trained by Dominic Galluscio after being claimed for $75,000 out of his latest win May 13, Potrisunrise will try to win for his new connections in the eighth race today at Belmont.

Unbeaten over the track, the son of Potrillazo will have four opponents in the $50,000 optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles. Richard Migliore will ride Potrisunrise, who last won at the same distance on May 1, 2004 at Hollywood Park.

The horse to beat in the race is Shaniko. A 4-year-old A.P. Indy colt trained by Todd Pletcher for owners Aaron and Marie Jones, he won for the third time in 11 starts May 15 -- by 1 1/4 lengths as the 19-10 favorite in an allowance race. John Velazquez will ride.

Race of the day: Golden Arrow, who has been worse than third only once in 10 starts on the Hollywood Park turf course, is among a field of five in the $62,000 Flame Thrower.

Victor Espinoza will ride the 6-year-old Rahy horse for Henry Pabst and trainer Neil Drysdale in the 5 1/2 -furlong race over grass. The field is completed by Siphonizer, who will be making his first start on turf for owner B. Wayne Hughes and trainer Richard Mandella; Moth Ball, who has earned all three of his wins in sprints; longshot Sanderman and Billy’s Echo.

One for the road: Engineered debuts for Churchill Downs’ leading trainer, Dale Romans, after being claimed May 25, and can win for the third time over the track in today’s fifth. Mark Guidry, who has been on a roll since leaving California to ride in Kentucky, has the mount on the 5-year-old Langfuhr horse in the $55,000 optional claimer at 7 1/2 furlongs.

Exotically speaking: A late pick four using Klamathfallsasleep, Meeting By Design and It’s Quite Unusual in the fifth, Santee River in the sixth, Golden Arrow and Moth Ball in the seventh and Rusty Nail, Caribbean Dude and Edge Out in the eighth.
