Lake near Hemet to open dirt trail
A 22-mile dirt trail around Diamond Valley Lake near Hemet is scheduled to open July 2, giving bikers and hikers a new way to enjoy Southern California’s largest man-made lake.
The route will expand trekking opportunities at the reservoir, which opened two years ago. Lake operators opened a 5.9-mile hiking and equestrian trail in the hills north of the lake in April.
The new trail includes restrooms and drinking fountains. It is wide enough for two bikers riding abreast and crests hills that offer scenic views of the 4.5-mile-long lake. But there is little shade and lots of snakes, so bring a hat and a healthy respect for wildlife.
Pick up a trail map at the main gate when you pay the $7 entry fee.
