U2 has announced a second leg of North American dates for its Vertigo/2005 concert tour, beginning Sept. 12 in Toronto and including shows Nov. 1 and 2 at Staples Center. The 33 new dates, which conclude Dec. 19 in Portland, Ore., will follow the Irish band’s European swing and bring the sold-out tour’s total to 91 concerts.

The tour begins March 28 in San Diego and includes four Los Angeles and Orange County shows in April.

Tickets for the November Staples Center shows go on sale Sunday. The band is again offering subscribers to its official website, www.U2.com, the opportunity to reserve tickets in advance.

The U2 website says it has made adjustments in that system to prevent a recurrence of the problems that surrounded the tour’s initial ticket sales in January, when many subscribers were shut out from the promised access while ticket brokers and scalpers ended up with substantial numbers of tickets. “The idea that our longtime U2 fans and scalpers competed for U2 tickets through our own website is appalling to me,” U2 drummer Larry Mullen wrote then in a statement that apologized to fans and promised them priority when the next series of dates went on sale.
