Rodriguez Provides Power for Yankees

Alex Rodriguez homered twice Tuesday night to lead New York to a 12-3 victory over Detroit at Yankee Stadium.

Rodriguez, who leads the major leagues with 16 home runs, also walked, scored three times and knocked in three runs.

The Yankees finished with a season-high six home runs, four against starter Wilfredo Ledezma (2-4), and won for the 13th time in 15 games.

Mike Mussina (5-2) gave up six hits in seven innings, winning his fourth decision in a row.

Baltimore 3, Seattle 2 -- Jay Gibbons homered to end an eighth-inning tie at Baltimore and the Orioles rallied to spoil the return of former manager Mike Hargrove.

Texas 4, Kansas City 3 -- Richard Hidalgo homered twice to back Ryan Drese (4-4) at Arlington, Texas, and the Rangers stretched their winning streak to four games.

Minnesota 6, Cleveland 3 -- Justin Morneau’s three-run double just out of center fielder Grady Sizemore’s reach with two outs in the 11th inning proved to be the winner at Cleveland.

Toronto 9, Boston 6 -- Reed Johnson homered twice for the Blue Jays, including a game-ending three-run drive in the ninth inning.

Tampa Bay 5, Oakland 4 -- Julio Lugo ended a tie in the seventh inning with a run-scoring single to lead the Devil Rays at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Josh Phelps homered twice and had three runs batted in for the Devil Rays.

Baltimore took outfielder Sammy Sosa, who sat out 16 games because of a staph infection in his left foot, off the 15-day disabled list and designated catcher Sal Fasano for assignment.... Toronto ace Roy Halladay will not make his scheduled start Thursday against Boston because of a strained left side muscle. Gustavo Chacin will start in Halladay’s place.
