She Has Always Been One Hall of a Reporter
I don’t know a hockey puck from a pockey huck, but I always read Helene Elliott’s stories in The Times because she’s such a fine writer. My congratulations to her for being named as this year’s recipient of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award and for her well-deserved induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, the first female journalist to be so honored.
The Professional Hockey Writers Assn. took an overly long time in selecting Elliott, but the main thing is that they finally got it right.

As a longtime hockey fan living in L.A., I would like to express my congratulations to Helene Elliott on her induction to the Hockey Hall of Fame. In a town where hockey often remains misunderstood and mischaracterized, even in a post-Gretzky era, I greatly appreciate her breadth of knowledge, keen insight, and thoughtful opinions.
I sincerely hope The Times will promptly elevate Ms. Elliot to her rightful place among other prominently featured columnists and immediately prohibit Plaschke from ever writing about hockey again.

Recognition of Helene Elliott’s excellent coverage is long overdue. I have admired her dedication, thoroughness, tenacity, and fairness for ages. Being able to read articles from another woman who loves hockey at least as much as I do has been a plus. Thanks, also, to Dennis D’Agostino for a great article on his wife.
