Unarmed Police Officer Killed in Northern City
An unarmed policewoman was shot dead and a second was wounded when they tried to tackle a trio of robbery suspects, British officials said. Police arrested five men and a woman but provided no details.
The officers were trying to stop three men who had robbed a travel agency in the northern city of Bradford, police said.
Constable Sharon Beshenivsky, 38, a mother of three, died of a chest wound despite wearing body armor. Constable Teresa Milburn, 37, was hospitalized for a shoulder wound. Many British police officers do not carry guns.
