McNabb Leads Eagle Rally

By the look of things, all those aches and pains were getting to Donovan McNabb. Philadelphia’s first three drives yielded two punts and a blocked field-goal attempt, and the Eagles were down 17-0 in the second quarter at Kansas City, Mo.

Turns out McNabb is as good leading a comeback as he is at enduring pain.

In rallying the Eagles to a 37-31 victory over the crestfallen Chiefs, neither a painful abdominal strain nor a determined Kansas City defense could stop McNabb from doing something Sunday that no other Philadelphia quarterback had before: pass for more than 300 yards in three consecutive games.

The Eagles (3-1) scored 28 straight points against the same defense that had nearly shut out the New York Jets a few weeks earlier on the same field.

McNabb, who was also playing with a chest bruise and a sore shin, completed 33 of 48 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns.

“I was just doing whatever I had to help my team win,” said McNabb, who was diagnosed last week with a painful strain in the lower abdomen.

“Nothing is easy in this game, especially when your body is in a position where you feel like you can’t do what you’re used to doing,” he said.

Terrell Owens fueled the comeback by consistently getting open and making 11 catches for 171 yards and a touchdown.

The Chiefs (2-2) closed to within six points with 1:24 left on Trent Green’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Dante Hall, but the Eagles recovered the on-side kick.

Hall tied the NFL record of six kickoff returns for touchdowns with a 96-yarder in the second quarter.

Atlanta 30, Minnesota 10 -- Michael Vick played about 22 minutes, more than enough for the Falcons (3-1) to beat the hapless Vikings (1-3).

Vick went down midway through the second quarter because of a sprained right knee, watching the rest of the game from the sideline as backup Matt Schaub and the Falcons’ defense finished off a rout at Atlanta.

Vick said after the game that he didn’t think his injury was serious.

Warrick Dunn rushed for 126 yards, including the 50th touchdown of his career on a 37-yard run. Vick ran for 58 yards and threw a touchdown pass. The Falcons made things miserable for Daunte Culpepper, who was sacked nine times, had two passes intercepted and lost a fumble.

New York Giants 44, St. Louis 24 -- Eli Manning threw for 296 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in a victory over the Rams at East Rutherford, N.J.

Manning completed 19 of 35 passes and threw for two touchdowns to Plaxico Burress -- who had a career-high 10 catches -- and one each to Amani Toomer and Jeremy Shockey. Jay Feely kicked three field goals for New York (3-1).

Marc Bulger of the Rams (2-2) finished 40 for 62 for 442 yards and two touchdowns but had two passes intercepted and was hampered by his team’s inability to establish a running game. St. Louis finished with 42 yards in 15 carries.

Washington 20, Seattle 17 -- Rookie Nick Novak’s 39-yard field goal 5:31 into overtime gave the Redskins a victory over the Seahawks at Landover, Md.

The Redskins are 3-0 for the first time since 1991, the last season in which they won the Super Bowl. Mark Brunell threw touchdown passes to unlikely targets Robert Royal and Mike Sellers, and Washington survived Seattle’s late rally -- including a kick that came inches from winning the game.

The Seahawks (2-2) tied the score on Darrell Jackson’s six-yard catch with 1:23 remaining. They got the ball back on Kelly Herndon’s interception of a pass deflected off the outstretched fingertips of Clinton Portis, the only turnover of the game. Three plays later, kicker Josh Brown hit the upright from 47 yards.

Brunell completed 20 of 36 passes for 226 yards. Santana Moss caught six passes for 87 yards, and Portis ran 25 times for 90 yards.

Denver 20, Jacksonville 7 -- Jake Plummer threw two touchdown passes to backup offensive lineman Dwayne Carswell, Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell combined for 175 yards rushing, and the Broncos’ defense harassed the Jaguars’ Byron Leftwich and Fred Taylor.

The Broncos (3-1) won their third in a row.

Leftwich was sacked twice and knocked to the ground many more times. He completed 20 of 34 passes for 240 yards with two interceptions.

Taylor carried eight times for 14 yards, and the host Jaguars (2-2) finished with a franchise-low 12 yards rushing.

Baltimore 13, New York Jets 3 -- Jamal Lewis scored on a one-yard run, Matt Stover kicked two field goals, and the host Ravens (1-2) sacked third-string Jet quarterback Brooks Bollinger five times.

Playing in his second NFL game and first as a starter, Bollinger completed 14 of 28 passes for 149 yards in place of injured starter Chad Pennington, out for the season because of a torn right rotator cuff. Backup Jay Fiedler also is out because of an injury for the Jets (1-3).

Lewis ran for 81 yards in 29 carries.
