Ending Game Boycott, Anaheim’s Mayor Will Be at Playoff Opener

After a regular-season boycott of Angel home games, Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle said Monday he would temporarily put aside his differences over the team placing Los Angeles in its name and attend tonight’s playoff opener against the New York Yankees.

Pringle will be host to seven children from the Anaheim Boys & Girls Club in the city suite.

“Having the Angels in the playoffs is exciting for the whole community,” Pringle said. “I want to make sure I’m clear in supporting the team. We’ve been very consistent the whole year in encouraging people to go to the games, and I don’t want anything to take away from that.”

Pringle said he planned to wear a red Angel shirt, but he made no attendance commitment past the first game. Council members Lori Galloway and Bob Hernandez have attended some regular-season games, but councilmen Richard Chavez and Harry Sidhu have attended no games.

Late Monday, Pringle was still waiting to hear from New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg to arrange the customary wager on the best of five-game series.
