A Los Angeles-based architectural firm’s master plan for the Longquan Yi District of Chengdu in China’s Sichuan Province is the winning entry in a global design competition, it was announced Wednesday. This is the fourth international urban design competition within a major Chinese city that Johnson Fain has won, according to the firm.

The Johnson Fain team, led by William H. Fain Jr., created a plan designed to position the 215-square-mile Longquan Yi district as the major center for international commerce in western China. The plan calls for a compact business center, university, research park and industrial district, and housing choices in a variety of styles.
