On the itinerary: great views, food

WHY would anyone want to go to a hotel in Montenegro that has lousy rooms and lousy food, have a mediocre time at best and spend money just to get there? [“Understudy to the Riviera,” Oct. 2].
For what you spent on your trip to Montenegro, we shall go to Salzburg, Austria, next spring. We shall have a lovely room with a mountain view at the wonderful Hotel Elephant, (priced right and in the heart of the old town) and eat great food with super service.
On our train trip to Vienna, we shall stop at historic Melk Abbey and then stay at the Hotel Konig Von Ungarn, Vienna, (moderately priced, lovely accommodations and excellent food) a short block’s walk to St. Stephen’s and the great pedestrian malls of Vienna, with the finest baked goods and coffee in the entire world.
We don’t like vacations that we have to make excuses for.
