Plan for Dana Point Harbor
DEMAND for bigger boat slips is behind a plan to dramatically expand the Dana Point Harbor in the next five years.
The $100-million renovation would feature new docks, shops, restaurants, boat storage facilities, slips and a hotel.
Boat owners are waiting increasingly longer for slips. At the Dana Point Marina Co., the wait for a 29-foot slip is about eight months; the wait for a 63-foot slip is about 13 years, says George Caravalho, director of the Dana Point Harbor Department.
Details of the project are contained in an environmental impact report the department released late last month.
Bond sales and low-interest loans would pay for the marina expansion, which must be approved by the California Coastal Commission and the Orange County Board of Supervisors.
