Red Wings Prevail, 3-2

Jiri Fischer’s goal with 50 seconds left in overtime gave the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Monday night at Detroit.

Fischer’s wrist shot from the top of the left circle beat goalie Evgeni Nabokov just under the crossbar. It was his third goal of the season.

Brendan Shanahan and Mikael Samuelsson each scored power-play goals for the Red Wings, who improved to 6-1-0. Goaltender Manny Legace made 26 saves for Detroit.

Nils Ekman and Marco Sturm had goals for San Jose, and Nabokov stopped 31 shots.

Phoenix 2, Calgary 0 -- Curtis Joseph recorded the 44th shutout of his career as the Coyotes won at Calgary, Canada. Phoenix, which recorded its first road victory for Coach Wayne Gretzky, got goals from Mike Ricci and Boyd Devereaux in the third period.

New York Rangers 4, Florida 0 -- Jaromir Jagr scored twice on two-man power plays in 42 seconds, and Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves for his first NHL shutout to lead the Rangers at New York. Jagr has six goals this season.
