Gretzky the Coach Wins in Return

Derek Morris scored a power-play goal one minute into overtime Tuesday night to give the Phoenix Coyotes a 4-3 victory over the Oilers in Wayne Gretzky’s first game in Edmonton as an NHL coach.

Morris skated in from the right point and blasted a slap shot past Edmonton’s Jussi Markkanen with Oiler defenseman Steve Staios in the penalty box for interference.

Oleg Saprykin scored twice in the first period for the Coyotes, and Shane Doan had a third-period goal to earn Gretzky his first overtime victory as Phoenix coach.

The No. 7 jersey of former Oiler standout defenseman Paul Coffey was retired in a pregame ceremony.
