From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Kansas City Chiefs made a quick trip to Miami worth the trouble.

With Hurricane Wilma scrambling the schedule, the Chiefs arrived less than six hours before kickoff for a rare Friday night game, then shook off any flight fatigue to defeat the Dolphins, 30-20.

Trent Green passed for 289 yards against Miami’s injury-depleted secondary, and the Chiefs totaled a season-high 462 yards, controlling the ball for nearly 42 minutes.

Lawrence Tynes’ three field goals included kicks of 51 and 52 yards, the two longest of his career.

Announced attendance was 68,350, but with the late scheduling change and rain in the area, the actual crowd was about 40,000.

Miami’s Gus Frerotte misfired on two potential touchdown passes and completed only 11 of 29 passes for 125 yards, Ricky Williams lost one yard in six carries and the defense gave up four scoring drives of eight plays or more.

On Thursday, with some forecasts predicting a weekend hurricane in Florida, the NFL moved up the scheduled Sunday kickoff by 42 hours.

A replay of the Chief-Dolphin game will be available to subscribers of DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket pay package in its originally scheduled window of 10 a.m. PDT Sunday. The game, televised live by CBS only in South Florida and Kansas City, also will be replayed on NFL Network Sunday at 5 p.m.

Pittsburgh Steeler receiver Hines Ward was upgraded to probable for Sunday’s game at Cincinnati after sitting out a game for the first time in his NFL career because of a hamstring injury last weekend.

New York Jet receiver Justin McCareins strained his calf in practice and is questionable for Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Cornerback Ty Law was downgraded to questionable because his back tightened up on him.
