Mike Morse hit a tiebreaking single and Joel Pineiro ended a three-start winless stretch with eight strong innings, leading the Seattle Mariners to a 3-2 victory over the slumping Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night at Oakland.

The Mariners tied the score at 2-2 in the seventh inning on Jose Lopez’s run-scoring single to center, then Morse followed with a sharp single down the left-field line for the go-ahead run.

Oakland lost its fourth game in a row and remained 1 1/2 games behind the first-place Angels in the AL West race and 1 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the wild-card standings.

Pineiro (6-9) won for the first time since beating Kansas City 4-3 on Aug. 16, and Ichiro Suzuki had a run-scoring single as the Mariners won their first series since sweeping the Royals that same week, Aug. 15-17.

Seattle won a road series for the first time since taking all four against the Angels from July 7-10.

Tampa Bay 4, New York 3 -- Second baseman Robinson Cano’s error in the ninth inning allowed the go-ahead run to score at New York, and the Devils Rays won the season series against the Yankees for the first time.

The Devil Rays are 10-4 against the Yankees in 2005 after beginning the season 31-80 against New York since entering the majors in 1998.

Chicago 6, Kansas City 5 -- At Chicago, Paul Konerko homered for the third straight game, and Juan Uribe hit one for the second night in a row to lead the White Sox to their sixth consecutive win.

Orlando Hernandez (9-7) won for the first time since July 29. Dustin Hermanson pitched the ninth for his 33rd save.

Texas 10, Minnesota 7 -- Mark Teixeira’s three-run homer in the ninth inning at Minneapolis made him only the fifth player in major league history to hit 100 in his first three seasons.

The other players who have accomplished the feat are Joe DiMaggio, Ralph Kiner, Eddie Mathews and Albert Pujols.

*

Baltimore 5, Toronto 0 -- Daniel Cabrera came off the disabled list to throw seven innings of four-hit ball, and Javy Lopez drove in three runs to lead the Orioles at Baltimore.

Cabrera (9-11) had not pitched since Aug. 12 because of a strained back. He struck out 10, walked one and allowed only one runner past second base.

Cleveland 6, Detroit 1 -- Cliff Lee gave up four hits over eight shutout innings, and Grady Sizemore, Coco Crisp and Aaron Boone homered for the Indians at Detroit.

The Tigers scored in the ninth, their first run in 27 innings, to avoid their third shutout in a row.
