A veteran Los Angeles police officer has been relieved of duty after her arrest for allegedly firing into the Inglewood home of a former paramour.

Officer Keely Coleman allegedly shot at the house in the 500 block of East Ellis Avenue on the evening of Aug. 30, Inglewood Police Capt. Hampton N. Cantrell said. A woman inside sustained minor injuries from splintered plaster, Cantrell said. A man who also was in the house escaped injury.

Coleman, 41, is a 13-year officer assigned to the juvenile division. A onetime drug abuse resistance education officer for the LAPD, she worked for several years at Dorsey High School.

Her record includes several commendations, the latest in June from Police Chief William J. Bratton.

Coleman had a former relationship with the owner of the Inglewood house, Cantrell said. She was off-duty at the time of the incident.

Coleman could not be reached for comment.

Coleman was arrested on suspicion of shooting into an inhabited dwelling and released in lieu of $250,000 bail.

The Los Angeles district attorney’s office is reviewing the case, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the office.

The LAPD’s Professional Standards Bureau is conducting an internal investigation and has interviewed several witnesses.

LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon said Coleman would be paid during the investigation.
