So the Kings’ practices are looser and happier now with Andy Murray gone? But the Kings are fighting for a playoff spot that they are falling further from every day. If anything, practice should be tougher. Now is not the time to take it easy.

As the Kings stumble toward the end of the season and out of playoff contention, we are once again reminded of why their business model is such a risky one.

As far as profitability goes, building a team that is just good enough to make the playoffs to keep fan interest relatively high through the end of a season and gain revenue from a single playoff round is what can make or break a franchise. The problem with this model is that it leaves very little room for error. Best of luck to the Kings as they look to build next year’s first-round-eliminated playoff team.
