Flames Rally to Pull Ahead of Avalanche

Chris Simon, Craig MacDonald and Damon Langkow scored second-period goals to rally the Calgary Flames to a 6-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night at Calgary, Canada.

Shean Donovan and Chuck Kobasew also scored, Matthew Lombardi converted a short-handed penalty shot and Jarome Iginla had two assists.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 23 saves for his 37th win as the Flames moved two points ahead of the Avalanche for first place in the Northwest Division.

Carolina 3, Florida 2 -- Craig Adams scored a short-handed goal early in the third period, and the Hurricanes clinched the Southeast Division title with a victory over the Panthers at Raleigh, N.C.

Chicago 3, Detroit 2 -- Patrick Sharp scored 1:29 into overtime, lifting the Blackhawks over the Red Wings at Detroit. Detroit’s Steve Yzerman scored his 691st goal, breaking a tie with Mario Lemieux for sole possession of eighth place on the NHL’s all-time list.

Pittsburgh 4, New York Islanders 0 -- Sergei Gonchar scored twice, and Sebastien Caron stopped 29 shots at Uniondale, N.Y., to help the Penguins end a two-game skid.

Columbus 4, St. Louis 2 -- Rick Nash scored twice at St. Louis to help the Blue Jackets hand the slumping Blues their ninth straight loss.

Minnesota 2, Vancouver 1 -- Mikko Koivu scored the only shootout goal, leading the Wild over the Canucks at Vancouver, Canada.
