Sorenstam Will Try a Change in Thinking

Annika Sorenstam finished her third-round 73 and was steaming, frustrated by her inability to sustain momentum and in a tie for 11th place at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, nine shots behind leader Lorena Ochoa.

That deficit makes her goal of winning golf’s Grand Slam almost a pipe dream, but because her approach the first three days hasn’t been working, she said she’ll change things for today’s final round at Mission Hills Country Club.

“I’m not going to analyze too much,” She said. “I’ve analyzed for three days now, I’m done analyzing and I’m just going to play tomorrow and see what happens.”

Torrance High senior Angela Park crept up the leaderboard early Saturday, reaching five under and fourth place with a front-nine 34, but she bogeyed the last four holes, shot 75 and fell to a tie for 11th at even par.

“I didn’t concentrate as hard as I should have today because so many of my friends were here and they were like “Hi Angela, Hi Angela,” and I was like ‘Hi, Hi,’ ” she said.

She said she didn’t feel the nerves, but she was watching the leaderboard -- at least on the front nine.

“When you’re doing well, you keep looking because you want to see your name up there, but when you start doing bad, you don’t want to look at it anymore because you know you’re going down.”

Michelle Wie finished her math homework before shooting a second-round 71 and caught up on “The Great Gatsby” for an English class assignment before she teed off Saturday.

She is also taking Japanese in high school, but playing a round with Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa made her wish she’d brushed up on her Spanish.

“My Spanish? It’s not very good,” she said.

Paula Creamer dropped from a tie for fifth to a tie for 23rd after a third-round 79.
