Las Vegas, Fife Deal Loss to Avengers, 63-49

The Avengers didn’t enjoy their visit to Las Vegas on Sunday.

Despite six touchdowns thrown by quarterback Sonny Cumbie, the Avengers (3-7) lost to the Las Vegas Gladiators, 63-49.

Quarterback Jason Fife threw five touchdown passes and ran for two scores for the Gladiators (5-5).

Fife completed 21 of 26 passes for 261 yards and ran for 31 yards.

Joe Douglass and Aleric Clark each had two touchdown receptions. Clark also returned the opening kickoff 57 yards for a score.

San Jose 61, Arizona 49 -- Mark Grieb threw nine touchdown passes -- five to Ben Nelson and four to James Roe -- in San Jose as the SaberCats defeated the Rattlers.

Grieb completed 26 of 36 for 361 yards. Nelson had 11 receptions for 203 yards, and Roe caught 10 passes for 111 yards for the SaberCats (4-6).

Sherdrick Bonner threw six touchdown passes and ran for a score for the Rattlers (5-5). Curtis Fagan had 11 catches for 187 yards and three touchdowns.

Orlando 55, Chicago 27 -- Joe Hamilton completed 14 of 19 passes for 177 yards and threw five touchdowns in the Predators’ victory at Orlando, Fla.

The Predators (6-4) limited the Rush (4-6) to one touchdown in the second half.

“It was a huge win for us,” Orlando Coach Jay Gruden said. “It wasn’t like we got a lot of breaks or turnovers.

“We simply stopped what Chicago was trying to do on offense, while our offense clicked on every possession,” he said.
