Calgary Falls but Clinches Playoff Spot

Ed Jovanovski scored the winning goal with 2:33 left in overtime, lifting the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night at Vancouver, Canada.
Despite the loss, Calgary clinched a playoff spot by forcing overtime, giving the Flames a point for the seventh consecutive game.
The Canucks kept their playoff aspirations alive, moving into an eighth-place tie with San Jose. Vancouver has four games remaining, including a home-and-home set with the Sharks on Wednesday and Thursday.

Jussi Jokinen and Bill Guerin scored in a shootout to give Dallas a 3-2 victory over Phoenix at Glendale, Ariz.... Paul Kariya scored in the second round of a shootout and Nashville clinched its second consecutive playoff berth with a 2-1 victory over Chicago at Nashville, Tenn.
Alexei Yashin scored two power-play goals in the first period, and the New York Islanders ended a six-game losing streak with a 5-0 victory over Washington at Uniondale, N.Y.... Jeff O’Neill had two goals at Philadelphia and Toronto rolled to a 5-2 victory over the Flyers.... Brian Gionta got his 43rd goal and Scott Gomez scored twice -- his 29th and 30th -- and New Jersey took sole possession of sixth place in the Eastern Conference with a 3-2 victory over host Montreal.
Jason Williams scored the go-ahead goal for Detroit and Chris Osgood made it stand with 27 saves in a 4-2 victory over host Columbus.... Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 51st goal to offset Justin Williams’ two-goal effort and Atlanta kept its playoff hopes alive with a 5-2 victory over Carolina at Atlanta.... Sean Burke made 25 saves in Tampa Bay’s 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh at Tampa, Fla.
Tim Connolly scored two goals and had an assist and Buffalo handed host Ottawa a 6-2 defeat, the Senators’ third loss in a row.... Michael Nylander scored his second goal 40 seconds into overtime and Jaromir Jagr set a New York Ranger record with his 53rd goal in a 4-3 victory at Boston.... Colorado extended St. Louis’ winless streak to 13 games with a 4-2 victory at Denver.
