Man Is Shot, Wounded After Threatening Police
A police officer shot a man who threatened him and his partner Saturday night, according to an Orange Police Department spokesman.
A resident in the 4500 block of East Via Lardo called 911 and said that Frank J. Guttierez, 47, was outside the home, violating a restraining order, Sgt. Fred Lopez said.
Before officers arrived, Guttierez, of Orange, walked away from the house toward a vacant field while screaming, police said. Officers pursued Guttierez into the field, where he threatened to kill them, Lopez said.
One officer fired twice, striking Guttierez once, Lopez said. Guttierez was treated at the scene, then taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was in stable condition, Lopez said.
Information about whether Guttierez was armed or whether charges will be filed against him was unavailable Sunday.
The Orange County district attorney’s office will investigate the incident.
