If Bob Hope were alive, he’d be making an appearance at Staples Center tonight. The retiring Luc Robitaille, Jeremy Roenick, Sean Avery, John Torchetti, maybe Dave Taylor and many more personnel collecting paychecks from the Kings will be told, “Thanks for the memories,” in a matter of days.

Just out of curiosity, how many incriminating photos of Times personnel does AEG possess? How else can you explain why King owner Philip Anschutz and CEO Tim Leiweke continue to escape the harsh treatment that the Dodgers’ Frank McCourt and Clippers’ Donald Sterling have routinely received in the past for poor team performances?

It is all well and good -- and in fact, necessary and quite overdue -- for King management (how’s that for an oxymoron?) to do an organizational housecleaning, but the fact remains that as long as AEG owns the team and Tim Leiweke oversees the rebuilding process, the results will continue to be the same.

An ownership group that allowed ineffective coach Andy Murray and overwhelmed GM Dave Taylor to continue year after year and is forcing the classy Luc Robitaille out the door while embracing and defending the classless Sean Avery gets exactly what it deserves.

Editor’s note: The Kings announced Wednesday, after an argument involving Avery and assistant coach Mark Hardy, that although Avery had not been suspended, he would not play with the team again this season.

Shame on the Kings for how they are treating their all-time leading scorer, Luc Robitaille. Whether it’s Andy Murray or this “fake” coach they have now, the Kings can’t buy a win on the ice, so they let Luc sit and eat popcorn in the stands, as if it’s his fault for their poor play.

It’s time for Dave Taylor to move on and Tim Leiweke too, but in Tim’s case that’s not going to happen because our absentee owner is in love with his cheapness toward the Kings. Maybe they should make Luc the Kings’ next coach so he could teach them how to play with passion.
