Scott Brazil, 50; TV Producer Won 2 Emmys for ‘Hill Street Blues’

Scott Brazil, 50, a television director and producer, died Tuesday at Sherman Oaks Hospital of complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and Lyme disease, the FX Networks announced.

Brazil won two Emmys for producing NBC’s hit television show “Hill Street Blues” in the 1980s.

He was also executive producer of “The Shield,” FX’s first original drama series, which became the first basic cable series to win both an Emmy and a Golden Globe award.

A graduate of USC’s Annenberg School of Journalism, Brazil also directed episodes of “Nip/Tuck,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “CSI: Miami” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
