Coach Pleads Not Guilty to Sex With Student

A 32-year-old high school volleyball coach pleaded not guilty Monday to having sex with a 17-year-old female student.

Zachary Pelzer of Mission Viejo met the alleged victim when she was 16 at the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club, where he was her coach. He is accused of having sex with the girl when she was 17 between Feb. 1 and March 31.

Pelzer at one time was also a volleyball coach at Dana Hills High School in Dana Point. He is charged with one count of unlawful sex with a minor. If convicted, he could face up to three years in prison.
