Xavier Nady hit a tiebreaking solo home run over Barry Bonds’ outstretched glove in left field leading off the seventh, and the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, Tuesday on a night Bonds connected for his 710th homer.

The Mets’ Cliff Floyd hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning.

Steve Trachsel (2-1) pitched six strong innings and kept the Giants in check after giving up Bonds’ second home run of the season in the second in helping the Mets avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season. Billy Wagner worked the ninth for his fifth save.

Bonds sent a 1-1 pitch from Trachsel into the left-field seats for his first home run at home since Sept. 18 against the Dodgers -- one of only two he hit at home last year in an injury-shortened season.

Chicago 3, Florida 1 -- Dontrelle Willis lost for the first time in April, with rookie Sean Marshall pitching seven scoreless innings on a 39-degree night to lead the Cubs at Chicago.

Willis (1-1) had been 9-0 with a 2.20 earned-run average in 14 April starts. He also began the night 2-0 with a 1.01 ERA in four starts at Wrigley Field.

Cincinnati 6, Washington 5 -- Edwin Encarnacion drove in four runs, and the Reds took advantage of National starter Billy Traber’s wildness to take an early lead before holding on at Washington.

Traber (1-1) lasted only 1 1/3 innings, forcing the Nationals to use five relievers. He faced 11 batters, and seven reached base -- four hits, two walks and a hit batsman.

Colorado 7, Philadelphia 6 -- Clint Barmes homered and drove in two runs, and Brad Hawpe added two RBIs, helping the visiting Rockies hang on despite losing most of a six-run lead.
