On with the showcase

WHAT might architect Reginald D. Johnson think of the stately Monterey Colonial he designed in the 1920s if he were to see the Buddhas in the garden, the spa’s tub filling from a spout in the ceiling, or outdoor areas as well-appointed as rooms inside? Pride in the fact that the house, completed in 1928, endures design changes and trends effortlessly. Thirty interior and exterior designers have transformed this year’s Pasadena Showcase House of Design with an eclectic mix of themes, colors and furnishings. It’s a house of ideas for any taste.
