San Francisco 8, at Arizona 4: Jason Schmidt hit one of the Giants’ six home runs and pitched the team to a victory at Phoenix. Pedro Feliz homered twice and Ray Durham, Moises Alou and Shea Hillenbrand also homered for the Giants. Schmidt (9-7) led off the seventh inning with the sixth home run of his career -- his second against the Diamondbacks -- to put San Francisco ahead 7-3. The six home runs given up matched a Diamondbacks’ franchise record.

St. Louis 13, at Cincinnati 1: Yadier Molina homered and drove in four runs overall, to lead the Cardinals. Chris Duncan, Scott Rolen and Scott Spiezio also homered for the NL Central leaders. Right-hander Jeff Weaver (2-2) delivered his best performance since joining the Cardinals on July 5.
