‘Lovable Takes Run at Oaks

A winner of three consecutive turf races at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park, Charming N Lovable will try to keep the streak going in her first graded stakes appearance today at Del Mar.

Trained by Paddy Gallagher for a partnership, Charming N Lovable, a daughter of Horse Chestnut, is one of 11 3-year-old fillies who were entered on Thursday for the $400,000 Del Mar Oaks today. Indy Miss scratched from the Oaks in favor of an $85,000 handicap on Sunday and Meetmeinthewoods is also entered in that race.

In the Grade I, Charming N Lovable should be comfortable at the 1 1/8 -mile distance, having already won convincingly at 1 1/16 miles. Fourth in her first two starts, the $60,000 yearling purchase broke her maiden at Santa Anita, then won an optional claimer and the Flawlessly Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Alex Solis, who has ridden the filly in all five of her races, has the mount again today and they drew well as they will break from post two.


Attima, who has won three of four in the U.S. for trainer Julio Canani and owners Anthony Fanticola and Joe Scardino, will be looking for her second stakes win of the meet. The Zafonic filly won the San Clemente Handicap by 1 1/4 lengths on July 29.

Race of the day: Wonder Lady Anne L, who won the Coaching Club American Oaks as a 9-1 shot on July 22 at Belmont Park, will look for back-to-back Grade I victories when she takes on eight other 3-year-old fillies in the $600,000 Alabama today at Saratoga. Edgar Prado will ride the daughter of Real Quiet in the 1 1/4 -mile race. Other contenders include Pine Island, Kentucky Oaks winner Lemons Forever and Adieu.

One for the road: Sleepy Jones returns to a race track he loves in the fourth race today at Bay Meadows. Macario Rodriguez will ride the 4-year-old Swiss Yodeler gelding in the $4,000 claimer at six furlongs. Sleepy Jones has won six of 10 at Bay Meadows.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Getnhotnhere, Gotta Go Gal and Loni’s Appeal in the seventh, Charming N Lovable in the eighth and Freedom Event, Oro de Ole’, North Fleet Street, Corkonian and Jan’s Ruling Angel in the ninth.
