at Seattle 6, New York 5: Adrian Beltre homered twice, including a ninth-inning drive off Ron Villone that gave the Mariners the victory and halted their 11-game losing streak. Beltre lined an opposite-field drive over the right-field fence. New York had two on with two outs in the ninth, but Julio Mateo (9-4) struck out Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees’ lead in the American League East remained a season-high 6 1/2 games over second-place Boston.

at Baltimore 6, Minnesota 3: Rookie Nick Markakis homered in his first three at-bats to ignite the Orioles. Markakis homered in the first, third and fifth innings off Carlos Silva (8-11). Seeking to become the 16th player in major league history to hit four in a game, he hit a short fly ball to left in the sixth against Willie Eyre. Markakis was left standing in the on-deck circle at the conclusion of the Baltimore eighth.

at Kansas City 5, Cleveland 2: Mark Teahen had four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and scored the go-ahead run on catcher Victor Martinez’s throwing error. Odalis Perez (1-1) gave up two runs and seven hits in seven innings for his first victory as a starter since April 21.

at Toronto 4, Oakland 3: A.J. Burnett won his fourth start in a row and Vernon Wells homered to lead the Blue Jays. Burnett (6-5) gave up three runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings. B.J. Ryan pitched 1 2/3 innings for his 28th save in 32 chances.

at Tampa Bay 5, Texas 3: Rocco Baldelli and Ben Zobrist hit consecutive sacrifice flies in the seventh inning and the Devil Rays held off the Rangers at St. Petersburg, Fla. Travis Lee homered in the eighth to give Tampa Bay a 5-3 lead.
