These bankers are in an ATM fog

FOLLOWING up on Lisa Abend’s alarming story [“The ATM Won’t Give Me Any Cash. Help!” Travel Insider, Aug. 13]: I am two weeks away from leaving for London and was counting on using my ATM card to get cash.

I called the bank this morning to inquire about any accommodations they would be making for customers going to Britain, such as no-fee travelers’ checks, and the phone banker had no clue what I was talking about.

Furthermore, she transferred me to the ATM supervisor for the Western region, who also had no clue what I was calling about.

“We’re located in Phoenix,” she said. “We don’t know anything about this problem.”

I told them to get ahold of the L.A. Times Travel section and read it!
