Re “Proposals to Ease Gridlock at LAX to Be Unveiled,” Aug. 23

Building new roads, or only expanding transit near Los Angeles International Airport, does nothing to deal with the congestion. What is missing in this plan is the need to extend Metrolink to the LAX area and the South Bay. This should be part of the solution.

The best way to ease gridlock is to reduce traffic. This can be done by increasing air traffic at the outlying airports, namely Palmdale. As a frequent traveler, I live to see the day I can avoid LAX by flying out of Palmdale. Please hurry.

A major issue at LAX is congestion at the Bradley Terminal. Backups on the primary LAX traffic loop often are caused entirely by bottlenecks at this terminal. Two fixes would eliminate this problem. A bypass road should be constructed permitting motorists to skip the Bradley Terminal, going directly from Terminal 3 to Terminal 4. This bypass would instantly eliminate traffic jams that are common along the first half of the LAX loop. The second idea is truly cheap. There already are bypass roads that let motorists skip to Terminals 5, 6 and 7, but most people are unaware of them and instead drive the entire loop. The solution is bigger signs saying, “Shortcut to Terminal 7.”
