4 Teens Charged in Bat Attack
Four teenage boys were charged Tuesday with attempting to murder a school policeman by hitting him on the head with a baseball bat when he responded to a burglary at a Pomona elementary campus.
The teens, ages 14 to 16, were also each charged with aggravated mayhem, assault on a peace officer, burglary and vandalism, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said.
A 15-year-old alleged to have wielded the bat was additionally charged with special allegations of using a deadly weapon and causing great bodily injury.
The defendants are a 14-year-old from Walnut, a 15-year-old from Walnut, a 15-year-old from Hacienda Heights and a 16-year-old from La Puente. Their names were withheld because they are minors. Prosecutors plan to ask that the teens be tried as adults.
The four broke into Jellick Elementary in Rowland Heights about 5 p.m. Aug. 15 and attacked the 62-year-old officer when he responded, a prosecutor said.
