Islanders move into first with win

Viktor Kozlov scored four goals to offset Brendan Shanahan’s 18th hat trick and help the New York Islanders take the Atlantic Division lead with a 7-4 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden.

Kozlov had a goal in each of the first two periods and two more in the final period to give him 11 for the season.

With their fifth victory in seven games, the Islanders pushed their points total to 31, one more than the Rangers and New Jersey Devils.

Miroslav Satan and Chris Simon each had a goal and assist for the Islanders, and Arron Asham also scored. Rick DiPietro made 39 saves.

Jaromir Jagr had the other goal for the Rangers in their first outright loss in seven games (3-1-3). Shanahan’s three goals gave him 20 for the season.
