“Wicked” is not only green, it’s platinum.

The Broadway cast recording of the Grammy-winning musical has been certified as having sold more than 1 million copies by the Recording Industry Assn. of America. The CD, released by Decca Broadway, features Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth and other members of the original company.

‘Wicked’: A Quick Takes item in Tuesday’s Calendar section about the Broadway cast album of “Wicked” having gone platinum said that the cast album of the Broadway revival of “Chicago” also had gone platinum, representing sales of 1 million. The “Chicago” album has gone gold, signifying sales of 500,000.

Cast recordings are not usually strong sellers. But recordings of other current shows have gone platinum too, including the revival of “Chicago.” Then there is “Mamma Mia!” Its Decca Broadway recording is fast approaching double platinum in the United States. And there have been platinum recordings of the German, Dutch and Swedish-language recordings of the ABBA musical too.
