A federal judge gave preliminary approval to Exxon Mobil Corp.’s $1.1-billion settlement of a lawsuit filed in 1991 by Florida service-station owners who didn’t receive promised fuel discounts.

Almost 11,000 station owners will be notified of a final settlement hearing to be held April 5 in U.S. District Court in Miami. The hearing is the last step in the suit, which Exxon Mobil appealed and lost at the U.S. Supreme Court.

Exxon maintains it has no liability and did nothing wrong.
