Bruins Are No Match for No. 18 Sun Devils

Kristen Kovesdy scored 18 points and had five rebounds Thursday night to lead No. 18 Arizona State to an 87-70 victory over UCLA in a Pacific 10 Conference game at Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils, 17-5 overall and 8-4 in conference, have won three in a row and are 11-0 at home.

UCLA (12-9, 7-5) had won two in a row and four of its last six games.

Noelle Quinn finished with a season-high 30 points and Nikki Blue added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Bruins, who were called for three technical fouls in the second half after Arizona State opened a double-digit lead.

USC 73, Arizona 72 -- Chloe Kerr scored all nine of her points in the second half, including two free throws with 45 seconds left, to give the Trojans the victory at Tucson.

Before Kerr’s game-winning foul shots, she made a three-point play with 1:07 left to cut the Trojans’ deficit to 72-71.

The Wildcats (7-15, 3-9) had their last chance fall short when Ashley Whisonant shot an air ball from about 10 feet away in the closing seconds.

USC (14-7, 8-4) was led by Meghan Gnekow’s 17 points. Eshaya Murphy added 14 points.

Natalie Jones led Arizona with 22 points.
