Hawks Surprise Pistons

Joe Johnson delivered big in the final seconds for the Atlanta Hawks for the second time in three games.

Johnson made a running layup with 7.5 seconds left to help the Hawks beat Detroit, 99-98, on Tuesday night at Atlanta, keeping the Pistons from becoming the first NBA team with 40 wins and handing them their first consecutive losses of the season.

On Friday, Johnson made a jump shot with less than a second left to give the Hawks a 96-94 win over Orlando. Johnson finished with 29 points.

Tayshaun Prince had eight of Detroit’s final 10 points to lead the Pistons with 29.

Sacramento 104, Memphis 96 -- Brad Miller scored 22 points, including two straight three-point baskets in the final 1:02, to lead the host Kings.

Miller, who had sat out the last three games because of a thumb injury, scored 12 of the Kings final 14 points and had 10 rebounds.

Kevin Martin scored 22 for Sacramento. Former King Bobby Jackson had 24 points for Memphis, which lost its 14th in a row at Sacramento.

Forward Antonio Davis reluctantly reported to Toronto following Friday’s trade from New York, saying he needed four days to clear his head.... A Midwest Airlines jet carrying the Milwaukee Bucks made an unscheduled stop at 11:50 p.m. EST Monday in Grand Rapids, Mich., after a mechanical problem with one of its engines, an airline spokeswoman said. The team, which continued to Milwaukee on another plane, was returning from a game at Cleveland.
