Simple concept ignored
Re “Sheriff Blames Lack of Staff for Jail Riot,” Feb. 6
As a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, I recognize Sheriff Lee Baca as my boss, but it is the county Board of Supervisors that determines my salary. Until those board members realize deputies cannot afford to live in L.A. County based on their current salary, there will continue to be a mass exodus of personnel to other departments and significant problems in hiring new people. It continues to amaze me that this simple concept is beyond the comprehension of those most responsible for the public services of this county.
