Sharks Slow Down First-Place Stars

Jonathan Cheechoo scored two of San Jose’s four goals in the second period and the Sharks defeated the Pacific Division-leading Dallas Stars, 6-3, Friday night at San Jose.

Milan Michalek also had two goals, and Joe Thornton and Alyn McCauley also scored as the Sharks won their second in a row.

The Sharks gave Ron Wilson his 400th career victory in his 900th career game as a head coach.

Minnesota 6, Edmonton 3 -- Pierre-Marc Bouchard set a team record with two goals in a span of 16 seconds to help the Wild win at Edmonton, Canada.

Calgary 3, St. Louis 2 -- Dion Phaneuf scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead the Flames to victory at Calgary, Canada.

New York Rangers 4, Toronto 2 -- Jaromir Jagr scored twice and added an assist and the Rangers scored four goals in the second period to win at Madison Square Garden.

Colorado 4, Columbus 1 -- Marek Svatos scored twice in a three-minute span of the third period to lead the Avalanche to victory at Columbus, Ohio.

Pittsburgh 4, Carolina 3 -- John LeClair whipped in a rebound for the go-ahead goal in the final minute of the second period, Sidney Crosby added his 27th goal and the lowly Penguins won on the road for the first time in more than a month.

Philadelphia 5, Washington 4 -- Sami Kapanen scored the go-ahead goal and Brian Savage had two power-play scores, leading the Flyers to victory at Philadelphia.
