Barnaby Didn’t See This Coming

A little instant karma got Chicago on Saturday.

With 3 minutes 1 second left in the game, the Kings’ Sean Avery flipped the puck into the stands from the defensive zone, an automatic delay of game penalty. The Blackhawks’ Matthew Barnaby skated by the Kings’ bench and chirped at them.

“He said, ‘You guys are going to lose now,’ ” King Coach Andy Murray said.

The Kings killed the penalty, then Barnaby took a delay of game penalty with 51 seconds left. Joe Corvo scored in overtime on that power play for a King victory.

Murray gleefully told reporters about it after the game, then found Barnaby.

“You spoke too soon,” Murray said, to which Barnaby replied: “Yeah, sometimes that kind of stuff bites you.... “

General Manager Dave Taylor said he would pick up where he left off after the Olympics.

Taylor was actively pursuing help via a trade when the rosters were frozen for the break Friday.

“We will be looking hard to find the right player,” he said. *

On Friday, Murray said that defenseman Mattias Norstrom was “100%.” Norstrom sat out a second consecutive game Saturday with a cervical strain.... The Kings will honor Luc Robitaille for breaking Marcel Dionne’s franchise record for career goals in a pregame ceremony.
