Re “Dorms Fuel Jail Unrest,” Feb. 12
Overcrowding, ancient plumbing, a shortage of trained personnel, racial tension and lack of control in the facility. The warehousing of criminals in Los Angeles jails and students in its schools share many similarities.

It’s more than curious how the media choose to use the words “racial tensions” to describe the recent prison riots between blacks and Latinos at the Pitchess Detention Center. Evidently the terms “hate crime” and “racism” are reserved only when whites are involved.
