The Law Catches Up With Juan Flores

Share

Famed outlaw Juan Flores was hanged in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day for his part in the murder of a San Juan Capistrano storekeeper and L.A. County Sheriff James Barton. A month earlier, a mob had cornered the bandit at the top of a 200-foot precipice that would become known as Flores Peak in Orange County. To escape, Flores blindfolded his horse and they both jumped off the cliff. Flores survived; the horse wasn’t so lucky.
