From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Five men accused in a 110-count federal indictment of helping Hollywood private detective Anthony Pellicano carry out wiretaps against entertainment and business figures pleaded not guilty Tuesday.

Those entering pleas in a downtown federal court included former Los Angeles Police Sgt. Mark Arneson, former telephone company employee Rayford Earl Turner, software designer Kevin Kachikian, record producer Robert Pfeifer and businessman Abner Nicherie.

Daniel Nicherie, who also is charged in the indictment, asked the magistrate judge to postpone his arraignment until Friday so he could hire his own attorney rather than the court-appointed counsel representing him in an unrelated federal fraud case. The case is before U.S. District Judge Robert M. Takasugi in Los Angeles.
