Bar Lubitsch

Excellent news for L.A.: Barkeep Sean MacPherson (Good Luck, Bar Marmont, Swingers, Jones, El Carmen) has no plans to abandon this fair city. Despite his success in New York (Maritime Hotel), he says he’s planning many more bars in Hollywood. Among them, Bar Lubitsch, which debuts March 1. Former Bar Marmont manager Jared Meisler is a partner in the project (at the former Parlour Club site in WeHo), which boasts 200 vodkas and a design scheme that makes it look as if it’s been there forever. “I wanted to pay respect to the Russian neighborhood, as well as create something timeless,” MacPherson says, “It’s also a nod to the German-born filmmaker Ernst Lubitsch, a nod to old Hollywood.” Though Bar Marmont’s future is uncertain (the lease is expiring), MacPherson says he’s eager to create more venues in the heart of Hollywood. “Most of the new bars feel so disposable,” he says. “It kind of breaks my heart. I want to give people something they can remember.”

Room for another Guy’s

Time to start working your angles. Cindy Margolis and hubby Guy Starkman have enlisted the skills of Travis Barker and DJ AM to celebrate Sunday night’s grand opening of Guy’s North, the Studio City sister club of Guy’s in WeHo.... Diane Keaton took this town to task at the wake for the Ambassador Hotel and the Cocoanut Grove on Feb. 2 -- blaming the media for its indifference to the passing of our history. Keaton’s speech was so powerful, you couldn’t help but cry a little. Even Kirsten Dunst, who showed up at the event (which took place at the Gaylord Apartments on Wilshire), poured a little out in memoriam.... Clubland domo David Judaken (Mood, Garden of Eden) is finalizing a deal to open a restaurant a couple doors down from Mood called East, which will share the back area of Mood. And opening midsummer is Bash, his new nightclub at the former Vynyl space. And the yet-to-be-named lounge he’s building next door to Bash includes a ceiling made of iridescent glass tile that looks like snakeskin.... Scenester Jeff Schultz tells us JiRaffe in Santa Monica has perfected the art of the cucumber martini. Yum.

Having hot dogs at home

Among the revelers at last Wednesday’s William Morris post-Grammy bash at the private Mulholland home of club owner Sam Nazarian were Brody Dalle from the Distillers, Chris Isaak, Charo, Death Cab for Cutie, Jaime Pressly, Eagles of Death Metal and Doug E. Fresh. Guests were treated to hot dogs from Pink’s.... Why we love L.A.: Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister and David Hasselhoff sharing German brews at the Knitting Factory on Saturday, where Nashville Pussy played a sold-out show.... As of Tuesday, city inspectors still hadn’t given Safari Sam’s the go-ahead to open, and management has scrambled to relocate some scheduled shows and has canceled others, including its planned Valentine’s Ball. Best bet: Watch www.myspace.com/safarisamsclub for info.... Should be a mass exodus to Las Vegas this weekend, as DJs Paul Oakenfold, Keoki, Doc Martin, Sneak and more rock “Utopia 2006” at various venues. For info, check out: utopialv.com.
