J.J. Redick lost a defender around a screen, took a pass in front of the Duke bench and launched a three-point shot.

The ball swished through, touching off an earsplitting roar from the crowd and vaulting Redick to the top of Duke’s career scoring list.

The senior sharpshooter scored 30 points to break Johnny Dawkins’ school record and help the second-ranked Blue Devils beat Miami, 92-71, at Durham, N.C., on Sunday, a win that could push them back to No. 1.

Redick finished 10 for 15 from the field and made six three-pointers for the Blue Devils (25-1, 13-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), passing Dawkins, now an assistant coach at Duke, by one point on the career list with 2,557 points. Redick also moved into second place on the ACC career list, 30 points behind Wake Forest’s Dickie Hemric.

Shelden Williams added 17 points and 15 rebounds for Duke, which could move up in the rankings after top-ranked Connecticut’s loss to Villanova earlier in the week.

The Blue Devils were ranked No. 1 through the first 11 polls before falling to No. 2 with a loss at Georgetown on Jan. 21.

The Blue Devils have won eight straight since. They jumped to a big lead late in the first half against the Hurricanes (14-12, 6-7) and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way to clinch the top seeding in next month’s ACC tournament.

No. 4 Villanova 75, No. 17 Georgetown 65 -- Randy Foye scored 22 points, Allan Ray had 20, and Villanova’s starters scored every point at home in the Wildcats’ 10th straight victory.

The Wildcats (21-2, 11-1 Big East) opened the season with 10 straight wins, giving them two 10-game winning streaks in the same season for the first time in school history.

They have also won 17 of their last 18 Big East games, including a win over Connecticut on Monday.

One of the surprises of the Big East, the Hoyas (17-7, 8-5) lost their third straight. Georgetown, like Connecticut, has a big front line that could have given Villanova trouble.

No matter. Kyle Lowry picked it apart with five straight points late in the second half that helped turn a two-point lead into a comfortable margin in about 1 1/2 minutes.

Even with a size advantage at nearly every position, Georgetown was outrebounded, 31-30.

Lowry finished with 13 points and Mike Nardi had 11. Will Sheridan, the only Wildcat starter taller than 6 feet 4, added nine points.

Roy Hibbert led Georgetown with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Ashanti Cook had 16 points and Jeff Green 15.

No. 14 Illinois 70, Indiana 58 -- James Augustine had 18 points and 10 rebounds at home for Illinois.

Augustine was seven for 11 from the field and four for four from the free-throw line. He had four dunks on his way to his ninth double-double of the season.

The Illini (22-4, 8-4) kept pace in the Big Ten race, one of four teams with four losses at the top of the standings. Indiana (13-10, 5-7) lost its fifth straight game and now has lost seven of its last eight.

No. 23 North Carolina 83, Wake Forest 72 -- Reyshawn Terry had 24 points and Tyler Hansbrough added 17 on the road, and North Carolina handed Wake Forest its eighth Atlantic Coast Conference loss in a row.

David Noel finished with 13 points despite foul trouble and Danny Green scored 10 for the Tar Heels (17-6, 8-4), who improved to 5-1 on the road in the ACC. They also assured themselves of at least a .500 record in the conference.

Justin Gray scored 20 points for the Demon Deacons (13-13, 1-11), and Eric Williams had 15 of his 19 points in the first half.
