North Carolina Gets Big Game by Noel

David Noel had a career-high 25 points and added 11 rebounds, Reyshawn Terry scored 20 points and No. 21 North Carolina beat No. 15 North Carolina State, 95-71, Wednesday night at Raleigh to hand the Wolfpack its first home loss in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Tyler Hansbrough finished with 17 points for the Tar Heels, 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the ACC. The Tar Heels also completed their third consecutive season sweep of their Tobacco Road rival, all since Roy Williams took over as coach.

“It was a fantastic performance for us,” Williams said. “I think it was our best basketball of the year.”

Andrew Brackman and Engin Atsur each had 16 points for N.C. State (21-6, 10-4).

No. 1 Duke 73, Georgia Tech 66 -- Shelden Williams had 26 points and 11 rebounds and J.J. Redick overcame a horrid start to score 22 points at Atlanta. Redick missed 15 of his first 17 shots, but he did make the go-ahead jumper with 8:51 remaining. He needs nine points to break the ACC mark of 2,587 set by Wake Forest’s Dickie Hemric 51 years ago.

Duke (26-1, 14-0 ACC) has won 20 of 21 games against Georgia Tech since losing in Atlanta 10 years ago. The Yellow Jackets (10-15, 3-11) have lost three straight overall.

No. 4 Memphis 66, Texas El Paso 56 -- Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 17 points at Memphis, Tenn., and the Tigers (25-2, 11-0) won a matchup of the top teams in Conference USA. The Miners (17-7, 9-2) played most of the game without leading scorer John Tofi, who sprained his right knee with 8:39 left in the first half.

No. 6 George Washington 77, La Salle 65 -- Regis Koundjia scored 13 points and the host Colonials (23-1, 13-0 Atlantic 10) extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 15 games.

Darnell Harris had 19 points for La Salle (17-8, 9-5).

No. 7 Texas 65, Kansas State 64 -- Kenton Paulino went four for four from the free-throw line in the final 16 seconds at Manhattan, Kan., and Texas (23-4, 11-2 Big 12) narrowly avoided its second straight loss. Kansas State is 14-10, 5-8.

No. 10 Tennessee 76, No. 12 Florida 72 -- Dane Bradshaw’s layup with 15 seconds to play gave Tennessee the lead for good at Gainesville, Fla. The Gators (22-5, 8-5 Southeastern Conference) had a shot to win it, but Corey Brewer’s turnover helped Tennessee (20-4, 11-2) pull out the win.

No. 13 Ohio State 79, No. 18 Michigan State 68 -- Terence Dials scored 19 points inside and Ohio State made 11 three-pointers at East Lansing, Mich., ending the Spartans’ 15-game home winning streak. Je’Kel Foster had 17 points for the Buckeyes (20-4, 9-4 Big Ten). Maurice Ager had 26 points for the Spartans (19-8, 7-6).

No. 23 Georgetown 66, Rutgers 50 -- Roy Hibbert scored a career-high 25 points at Washington and Georgetown (18-7, 9-5 Big East) ended a three-game losing streak.

Quincy Douby had 29 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (15-12, 5-9).

No. 24 Louisiana State 77, Vanderbilt 66 -- Darrel Mitchell scored 21 points at Nashville and the Tigers (19-7, 11-2) clinched their second straight Southeastern Conference Western Division title.

Vanderbilt (14-10, 5-8) dropped its fourth home conference game.

Bradley 71, No. 25 Northern Iowa 49 -- Patrick O’Bryant scored 18 points at Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Bradley won its fourth straight game.

Tony Bennett added 13 points for Bradley (17-9, 10-7 Missouri Valley Conference), which swept the season series with Northern Iowa. Ben Jacobson led Northern Iowa (22-7, 11-6) with 16 points.

Pacific 79, Cal State Northridge 51 -- Mike Webb made eight three-pointers for a career-high 24 points to lead Pacific (17-9, 9-2 Big West) at Stockton. Mike Efevberha scored 14 points to lead Cal State Northridge (10-14, 3-8).
