Traore Leads No. 18 Purdue to an Upset

Purdue senior Ava Traore matched her career high with 23 points and led No. 18 Purdue to a 61-59 victory over No. 7 Ohio State on Sunday at West Lafayette, Ind.

The Boilermakers, 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten Conference, claimed their sixth consecutive victory after Ohio State’s Ashley Allen’s three-pointer as time expired bounced off the rim.

Traore helped Purdue overcome a nine-point halftime deficit. She had 16 points on six-of-11 shooting in the second half.

“We just fed off of her,” said Purdue guard Sharika Webb, who had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Buckeyes (9-2, 1-1) shot 50% and limited Purdue to 37.5% shooting in the first half. Purdue scored seven consecutive points to start the second half, including six by Traore.

No. 3 Louisiana State 99, North Carolina A&T; 35 -- Quianna Chaney scored a career-high 19 points in a laugher at Baton Rouge.

Chaney made seven field goals, including three three-pointers, to join LSU reserves Kristen Morris (15 points) and Ashley Thomas (13) in double figures. Morris and Thomas also combined for 14 rebounds.

North Carolina A&T; (0-10) made two baskets in the first 2:08 of the game, but then scored just two points during the next 14 minutes. LSU (11-0) outscored the Aggies, 32-2, in that stretch.

No. 10 Michigan State 77, Michigan 44 -- Liz Shimek led Michigan State (10-3, 1-0) with 16 points, and the Spartans forced 29 turnovers in the Big Ten Conference win at East Lansing, Mich. Janelle Cooper scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half for the Wolverines (6-8, 0-2).

No. 16 New Mexico 55, New Mexico State 42 -- Abbie Letz had a career-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds at Albuquerque to help New Mexico (10-3) beat the Aggies (3-8) for the 20th straight time.
